Conjoined whales found in Mexico
'Exceptionally rare'
Fishermen have found two conjoined gray whale calves in a northwestern Mexican lagoon, a discovery that a government marine biologist described as "exceptionally rare." The four-meter (13-foot) long siamese whales were dead when they were found in the Ojo de Liebre lagoon, which opens to
the Pacific Ocean in the Baja California peninsula.
Officials from the National Natural Protected Areas Commission (CONANP) verified the discovery during a visit on Monday.
The nearly half-tonne creatures were linked at the waist, with two full heads and tail fins, said Benito Bermudez, a marine biologist and CONANP's regional manager.

Japanese Cat Island
The tiny island of Aushima resides 12km from the city of Ozo in Japan and is totally run over by cats! only 15 people live on this island, all retired – and share their living space with 100 cats, which gave it its name – the Cat island.
With the absence of population monitoring, the cats have been multiplying non stop for the last decade, but only lately did the island became a sensation on the internet and a wanted tourist location. Even though it has no hotels, restaurants or any other attraction but the cats.

Iced Out America's Polar Vortex in 10 Chilling Photos
Some areas in the United States dropped to their coldest temperatures in years
as a polar vortex flooded the country from Canada, spreading into the
Midwest and expanding to other states from coast to coast.
Wind chill in Minnesota reached -50 degrees Fahrenheit — that's cold
enough for exposed skin to get frostbite in 5 minutes. Plenty of other
places saw sub-zero weather, temperatures so cold that many officials
shut down schools, highways and tourist attractions as a means to try to
keep people inside. Here are few spine-shivering photos.
